Reporting to the Mine Manager, the main purpose of this role is to manage all operational and maintenance aspects of the fleet of five split-hopper barges to ensure their safe and reliable operation.

These vessels are used to load, haul and dump waste rock and soil from our open pit mining operations at the rate of nearly 50 million tonnes per annum, some 550m offshore, into the Luise Harbour caldera. The barges are self-propelled, have a capacity of 995 cubic meters and are 63m long. Lihir's marine operations are unusual and our barges are almost unique in both their design and mode of operation.

We are seeking an energetic, goal-oriented and continuous improvement focused leader with preferably a marine engineering background, however candidates with ship master or marine/mobile equipment trades backgrounds with appropriate experience at the senior level in this type of marine environment will be considered.

The ideal candidate will have solid experience in the operation and maintenance of split hopper barges or marine earthmoving operations in a high volume, production-focused environment in a developing country. LMC is also going through a longer-term programme of replacement and re-builds of the barges, and candidates who also have experience in ship construction would have an advantage.
